Obituary for Edwin "Bud" Oakland

Edwin D. “Bud” Oakland, age 93, of Coeur d’Alene, ID died March 3, 2019. He was born May 18, 1925 in Luverne, Rock County, Minnesota to Ed A. and Mabel A. (Wulf) Oakland. He attended 8 grades in a country school and completed high school in 1943 at Luverne High. His early years were spent on a farm south of Luverne, MN. In 1944, he went into the Navy and trained at the Great Lakes Training Station, IL. He then served on a minesweeper in the South Pacific as an Electrician’s Mate 3/C. He was honorably discharged June, 1946. In September 1946, he enrolled at Worthington Jr. College where he met his bride-to-be, Evelyn Bisch, who was secretary and registrar. They were married August 22, 1947.
Bud was a commercial weed sprayer and co-owner of a city bus line in Worthington. In 1951, after studying US weather maps, a decision was made to move to Coeur d’Alene, ID. In 1987, he retired from Allstate Insurance after 26 years as an insurance agent in Coeur d’Alene. Prior to working with Allstate, he was in sales for several different local businesses.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a Life Member of each of the following organizations: NRA, VFW, Coeur d’Alene Skeet and Trap, Coeur d’Alene Rifle and Pistol Club, Elks Lodge 1254, and Ben Franklin Masonic Lodge #114 in MN. He and his wife enjoyed many years of traveling in their RV – wintering in Arizona and Texas and seeing most of the states including 2 ½ months in Alaska and visits to Canada. He had a passion for all of the shooting sports and hunting since he was 10 years of age.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mabel Oakland; sister, Audrey Wildung; and brother, William Oakland. Survivors include wife, Evelyn; son, Charles E. (Linda) Oakland; daughter, Rebecca (Ken) Clegg; grandson, Chad (Niki) Oakland; granddaughter, Corryn Oakland; great grandchildren, Brady, Cooper, Tatum, and Miller Oakland.
The memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene with Yates Funeral Home in care of the arrangements. A reception will follow the service at the church.
