Obituary for Sandra O. Keyes

Sandra O. Keyes (Sandi), 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Coeur d’Alene on Sunday, September 1, 2019.

Sandi was a life-long learner with wide-ranging interests, avocations and careers. No matter which topic she explored, she dove deeply in gathering and reading as much information as possible. Professionally, she was a phlebotomist, seamstress/clothing designer, real estate agent, certified financial planner, and small market farmer. Her avocations and interests included photography, needlepoint, cross-stitching, knitting, quilting, carving, and gardening. She was at her happiest when she could design things, from a garden bed, a room in a house to an addition or major home remodel.

Sandi had a deep faith in God and was a beloved member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. She especially enjoyed Christian books and studying the Bible. At age 82, she graduated from Education for Ministry, a four-year program for lay people, offered through the seminary at University of the South.

Throughout her life she opened her home to those in need. Whether it was a family who lost their home to a fire, her sister and children who moved across the country, or a young teen trapped in the foster care system, Sandi opened her heart and her door to help. Later in life she lived with her daughter, Kristin, where she helped to raiser her granddaughter Kyra. Most recently, she shared a home with both her daughters, Kari and Kristin and granddaughter Kyra.

Sandra is survived by her children Arthur W. Keyes, Kristin L. Keyes, and Kari K. Romeo; her grandchildren Andrew Southwick (wife Rebecca and children Jakob, Levi, Josiah, Isaiah and Miriam), Katelyn McFarland (children, Xander, Phoenix and Malfina), Michaela Keyes ( daughter Lydia), and Kyra O’Reilly; and her younger sister Helen Gay Clifford (husband John Clifford); as well as nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Sandra’s life will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Coeur d’Alene at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 12, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Union Gospel Mission, 1224 E. Trent, Spokane, WA 99202 (
