After 7 years, John left Seminary life and pursued numerous secular career paths related to construction, carpentry, real estate, and transportation industries. He has run his own carpentry services company and real estate inspection services company.

John was also a spiritual seeker. He attended, and was a member of, various organized and informal religious organizations and beliefs. One of these included the Unity Spiritual Center of North Idaho, where he once sang in the choir. He believed in the power of positiveness, in the achievement of world peace, and in helping everyone he met. His always pleasant and kind demeanor touched and positively influenced many who came in contact with him.

He spent time traveling throughout Europe, early in his life, and later in Asia. He had an appreciation and open respect for all cultures and beliefs. He had broad mundane and intellectual interests, and he loved to converse with anyone on any topic.

John was a lover of nature. He hiked, canoed and camped with his siblings on Northwestern Michigan rivers, cross-country skied the Birkebeiner in Wisconsin, and backpacked in Colorado and Pennsylvania. He was also a lover of the great National Parks of the U.S.

The family asks that memorials and donations be made to the Schneidmiller Hospice House, 2290 W. Prairie, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83815.
