Obituary for James (Jim) W. Brush

On Monday, January 13, 2020, James W. Brush passed away in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho at the age of 84.

Jim was born on December 11th 1935 to Helen and Elmer Brush in Savage, MT and grew up in Billings, MT. He received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Montana State University in 1959, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Jim’s construction years began in Yellowstone Park during college, eventually working for COP Construction and Timberweld. He then spent the greater part of his career with Trus Joist, acquiring life-long friends and building a profound reputation with the company. He was well traveled and few can say they captained a sailboat in both hemispheres. Jim enjoyed his retirement years here in Coeur D’Alene, spending the summers on the water and skiing with family in the winter.

He was an unfailingly patient man, a perpetual teacher, and the one who could repair all- even the emotionally broken. Although, the printer did give him a run for his money.

Jim was the glue who shared his love, zest for life, passion for sailing, snow skiing, water skiing, boating and so much more- all of which brought this family together.

He was a great conversationalist; there was never a dull moment with Jim in the room. He was a dog lover (cat tolerator), and could impress all with his worldly taste, red wine, Irish coffees, margaritas, Stella, and famous sourdough pancakes. Jim was loved and treasured by all who knew him.

Jim was an extremely proud husband, father, granddad, uncle, and brother. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 30 years Traci, sister Dorothy, 4 children; Torr (LeAndra), Nikki (Matt), Kelli, Kyle (Tara) and 5 grandchildren; Raili, Quinn, Sydney, Finley, Dylan and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, raise your glass and toast your loved ones. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, when the sun is shining and the water is warm. Details will be posted via family member’s Facebook page, email or phone.
