Obituary for Betty Kauffman

Betty Pearl Kauffman, 91, of Hayden Idaho passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 6th, 2019 at Hospice of North Idaho surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born in Olympia, Kentucky, May 10th, 1927 to Collin & Rebecca Griggs. She was one of six children, all of who preceded her in death. Her sisters were Louise Swartz and Dorlis Griggs and her brothers were James Griggs, Lee Griggs & Wilbur Griggs.

She met the love of her life, MCPO Paul Kauffman at the Officers Club, Treasure Island, San Francisco in 1967. They were inseparable from the first night they met. They married in 1968 and had their one and only child, Lisa Bariel Ewing in 1969. Betty lost her soul mate 9 short months ago after 50 years of marriage, but we are joyful in the knowledge that they are now reunited.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Lisa Bariel Ewing (and husband J.R.) of Hayden, Idaho; granddaughter, Amber Bariel of Hayden Idaho and niece, Sheila Price of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.

Wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Miss Betty never met a stranger in her life. Some perfect examples of the size of her heart are also some of the stories that make us celebrate and miss her so much. One occurred at her dentist’s office, where a patient commented on how much she liked Betty’s purse, and she proceeded to empty it out there and then, and gave it to the lady. She once went shopping for a shirt that matched the one she was wearing for another lady at a doctors office that liked the color. She would leave bottled water in the garage fridge for the local construction workers and garbage men, and leave hot cocoa in a thermos for the garbage men on cold winter days. She would have water and cookies set aside for the mail carriers daily delivery, and would keep the garage freezer stocked with popsicles for the neighborhood kids. Miss Betty had nothing but love in her heart.

It's safe to say that Super One Foods in Hayden and Medicine Man Pharmacy inside Super One have lost their most loyal customer. You were more than a grocery store and pharmacy to Miss Betty and through her, our family. You became friends. You became family yourselves. We will forever be grateful for the kindness, love and support you have provided Miss Betty through the years.

A celebration of life will be held at her daughter Lisa's home on Saturday, January 19th from 12pm-6pm. If needed, please call or text 208-659-5093 for directions.
