Obituary for Alfred Charles Peck

Alfred Charles Peck was born July 25, 1929 in Belmont, Idaho to Wesley Walter Peck and Bertha Marguerite Burroughs. He passed away on January 14, 2019 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. Al began his new life the tiniest of a set of twin boys. Sadly, his twin brother Alton did not survive. Alfred spent his first moments of life being kept warm in a box placed on the open oven door of a wood cook stove. He weighed only two pounds. Al was a survivor, however, and grew up enjoying all kinds of childhood adventures with his older brother Robert on the Peck family farm. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, logging, and farming and was a true farmer at heart.

During the summer of 1950, he met his true love, Edith Emogene Taylor, on a blind date at a Grange Hall dance. Only three months later, they were married September 17, 1950 in Spokane, Washington. During the next few years, they welcomed their sons, Dale and Neil, into their lives and the happiness continued.

Alfred was a very involved and loving father. He took part in all aspects of his sons’ lives and was a Boy Scout Master, involved in 4-H, and taught them everything he knew about farming, cattle, logging, mechanics, hunting, fishing, and life.

Al spent most of his working career as an electrician at the Naval Station in Bayview, Idaho and retired from there in 1984. He also owned his own electrical contracting company, Bayview Electric, and served the people in Bayview for many years. He was involved in the Chamber of Commerce and the Coast Guard Auxiliary and enjoyed serving the community of Bayview in many ways. Al and Edie were very fortunate to have many friends in the Bayview area. Their closest friends were Iven and LaVerne Rickel and Gordon and Lorraine Koch. Most folks in the area will remember rarely seeing these six friends apart. Where one set was, the others usually were! They were rare lifetime friends and are surely having a good party now that they are all together again!

Al and his father and sons worked very hard on the infrastructure which is now Lonesome Pine Ranch, and his descendents are full of gratitude every day for the serene and peaceful life in the country that we can all enjoy. Now there is a fifth generation living on the ranch and we hope many more to come.

Alfred was very much loved and will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alton; his parents, Wesley and Bertha; his grandson, Nathan; his brother, Robert; and his beloved wife of 66 years, Edith. Al is survived by his son, Dale; his son, Neil (Debra); his grandsons, Nick (Janelle), Phil (Bobbie Jo), and Mike (Cassie); his great-grandchildren, Andrew, Rachel, and Eric; and his cousins, Alice Hammond Eaton and Nancy Moulton Moore.

A “Celebration of Life” for Alfred will be held at the Bayview Community Center on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM for family and friends.
